Part of the charm of owning quality leather furniture is seeing it develop its own character as it ages and, rather than wear out, develop a patina over time (provided it is properly maintained). Many also like the fact that you can identify markings of scars and wrinkles from the animal's outdoor exposure. Many an animal will rub its hide against a post for a good scratch or stick its head through the fence to greener pastures, possibly scratching itself on a nail or barbed wire in the process. It's all part of what makes leather unique!
However, while the leather may not let you down, over time the seat filling, or foam cushion, can. This was the case with two Italian leather armchairs being worked on this week. Their owner was concerned that the seats were, well, not quite saggy baggy, but at the very least, saggy! So, our upholsterer rebolstered the seat cushion inners and discovered that some of the webbing support straps had given out, so he replaced those too.
Once the repairs had been made and the refinishing work completed, I delivered the chairs to their owner. She was delighted with not only the look and feel of the restored finish, but also the fact that she could now sit down in her favourite armchair and not feel like she was sinking through to middle earth!
So, if the seat cushions in your leather furniture feel saggy or just give out completely when you sit down, give Leatherwise a call. We'll be more than happy to provide you with the support you need!
