In 2014 Leatherwise® was judged as a Finalist in the David Awards' new Solo Meo category. |
"Excellent consistency, appropriate promotions, good use of budget and doing the new media stuff too ... Leatherwise walks the talk in terms of professionalism, image, and communications. A very good example of a small business that demonstrates professionalism far beyond what most small businesses do, but which is also appropriate to a small business."

The Leatherwise Name and Logo
The name "Leatherwise" was conceived by Andre's son Ricardo, who came up with the idea while the family were discussing possible names for the business. Ricardo's suggestion was inspired by "Signwise," the name of a multi-award-winning Wellington sign company then owned by Andre's brother Paul Mendes da Costa, who worked with Andre in designing and producing the final logo and vehicle graphics.
In August 2012 the name "Leatherwise" and its current logo became a registered New Zealand trademark.
